The Madison River from Highway 191 north of town has been good with big streamers and stone nymphs for run-up browns and rainbows. We all have fingers crossed that the Park may reopen but for now we can only hope and think of the huge numbers of fall run fish loaded in each pool and run.

The river below the dam is fishing well during Baetis times on overcast days. Here too the nymphing has been outstanding.

The stretch from Slide to Ennis has been very good with midges and Baetis for the dry fly anglers. Floats have been wonderful for those fishing streamers and big nymphs. Stop in for fly ideas and places to fish.

In the wade stretch fishing small nymphs Baetis fished prior to the hatch has been very productive. We like to sight fish a tiny Baetis nymph pattern. Oddly enough when fishing such a tiny fly it is not necessary to strike quickly when a trout takes. Even when a fish takes and hooks itself it will continue to feed as long as you do not apply pressure to it. We have waited over a minute before putting the heat on all the while watching it continue to feed as it nothing had happened. If you haven't already give it a try sometime and send us your story!

The Gallatin has fished very well with nymphs when it runs clear, and Baetis during their time on the water.

The Henry's Fork has fished well during Baetis times and the weeds are not as pesky now for anglers to deal with as they were in the early fall season.

I have to get going or I'll miss the midge times today. I hope to see you on our rivers soon. Give us a call for advise on fly tying and flies needed, stream conditions, tying materials and anything else we can help you with!
