Overcast afternoon conditions turned both the trout and crappie for those trolling Santa Cruz Bay. Several anglers reported |wide open" action trolling Rapala C.D 3's and Kastmasters. Unfortunately on Sunday the bite cooled off as fast as it heated up, at least in that area of the lake. Bass fishing still a bit slow, and with only a handful of people targeting them last week reports were scarce. Carp have been a little inconsistent as well, and are on day to day status at this time. A bit more warm weather should have the carp on the surface all over. Other than a few catfish, all other species were absent from the count.

It was a good week of trout fishing led by a 9 lb. hold-over tailwalker landed by Kenny Weber of Santa Barbara. The big fish hit a flat lined silver and black C.D. 5 Rapala in an undisclosed location. Many other fishermen had good results trolling similar baits near the mouth of Johnson's and from Cachuma point to Santa Cruz point. Shore anglers connected on the point next to the marina, as well as E point. Nightcrawlers under a bobber......

Good Trout fishing still on tap for those flat lining Rapala's, flicker shad's, and kastmasters from Santa Cruz point to Cachuma point, and from Little Cachuma, to the dam. Several nice limits were checked in to the marina last week, as anglers enjoyed great weather and little angling pressure. The bass bite slowly turning on, with largemouth taking jigs, and drop shot. Smallmouth should start to move soon as days are getting a bit longer and water temps. climb. Crappie......
