Zero Dark Thirty (032614) Zero Dark Thirty, that's when the Yellowfin started to get busy. It was all hands on deck, and it was on. It was the toughest type of fishing for giant Yellowfin tuna. You had to use a one pound sinker with 130 pound test Izorline or better. With these giants making large circle's, we had our hands full. But we didn't lose any fish to tangles. Heartbreaker this morning was Don Burnside and his new 3 speed reel. Don went around the boat a few times, then the fish was being a dog. Don handed the rod to Big "D", just to keep him out of trouble, two other crew members had gaff's ready to put this giant on the boat. At full drag, the fish was still taking line of the reel, and it was too close to try to tighten it up or even lift. Just on more circle and the fish would be part of the morning bite, then all at once, the giant gained his freedom. The 130 pound fluorocarbon just exploded. I haven't seen that since we started using fluorocarbon many years ago. We ended our morning with one over 200 pounds, and many others in the 175 to 195 range. Lucky anglers today were Kirk McCoy with a 241 pound Yellowfin, and Jim Howard with his personnel best Yellowfin at 195 pounds. We ended our day with 33 Yellowfin and 6 Wahoo. We are hoping to catch a tank of bait again tonight and wishing for a good morning bite. So until tomorrow, wish us luck. The R/p crew. P.S. Halcrow, Eddie say's this one is for you.
