Brian Evans docked Spirit of Adventure at H&M Landing August 23 after a three-day trip with 27 passengers. The jackpot winner had a story to go with his 70-pound yellowfin.

"He bit on a sardine," said Mike Mullen of Woodland Hills, "and about halfway through the fight he broke the rod, between the fifth and sixth guides."

Mullen persevered, though, and won the fight. He said he used a 3/0 Mustad hook, 30-pound Izorline, an Avet 662 reel and an old Sabre Stroker rod.

Ed Furu was second, and Rick Julian of Chino Hills was third in the jackpot.
