"We left Cedros at about 2:30 en route for Guadalupe," wrote red Rooster III skipper Andy Cates August 29. "I had a feeling one of these days we would hit it right in here. Today was the day. Great fishing on 18 to 25-pound yellows with perfect conditions. It was a great visual with yellows swirling around the boat chasing the sardines. With everyone catching the yellows they wanted, we are heading back out in hopes of settling our Jack Pot and maybe a bit more. We will be fishing first thing in the morning."

Cates stayed at Guadalupe for a day and a half of decent fishing on quality yellowfin and yellowtail. There was no south swell, yet. The trip was for five days, with 29 passengers.

Mark Misener of Chesapeake, VA won first place for a 70.8-pound yellowfin. He said it bit a flylined squid on a 10/0 Super Mutu hook, tied to 50-pound Izorline, on a Daiwa Saltist reel and a Seeker 655 XH Black Steel rod.

Ross Stucker of Santa Clarita won second place for a 69.6-pound tuna, and Jim Cook of Torrance was third, for a 69.3-pound yellowfin.
