http://www.lakesabrinaboatlanding.comGet those cameras ready - Autumn is not far off - or at least the changing of the trees is not far off, in fact, we already have some yellows showing across the lake and on the far southwest mountainside towards the back of the lake. We also had a lot of smoke in the area due to the Santa Barbara fire on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The smoke cleared out Saturday with the winds we had, but it hazed up again on Sunday.
Fishing this week was good for some and not so good for others. Fishing the Dingleberry Inlet (the main inlet in the back right) with worms or PowerBait along with flys were having a bit of luck. Trolling deep with a red-dot frog pattern or using flashers and a worm had been producing quite a few limits. Shore anglers were also using worms and PowerBait. Those driftin` were again using worms and PowerBait.
Brothers Daniel and Joseph Rojo of Henderson, Nevada, each caught their first fish at Lake Sabrina. Allison Duckworth landed on nice 2-pounder on a worm and Dominic Primo of La Crescenta caught a 3-1/2 pounder also on a worm. Sunday afternoon brought in two fine Alper specimens - Zbigniew Wojtalewicz of Long Beach snared a 4-3/4 pounder on a fly while Donna Kurctner of Corona hooked a 4 pound beaut on a worm.
The Department of Fish and Game stocked the lake Tuesday with pan-size fish and a few fish tipping the scales at 2-pounds. If you happen to catch a fish with a tag in the gill, it`s just to let you know the DFG are stocking with some larger fish. We ask that you all be real careful this year and remember Smokey`s Motto - "Only YOU can prevent Forest Fires!"
It`s getting light later and dark earlier. Quite a bit of smoke and wind this week - YUK - keep that nasty hazy brown stuff in your neck of the woods, please. I thought maybe some of you were driving a bit too fast and just sucked that smog right along with you. Temps are to be in the high 70s and the lows in the low 50s, but don`t forget that jacket for first thing in the morning and after the sun goes behind the mountains. Didn`t have much chance to hear a weather report for you this weekend.
Nimrod (our now 5 month old kitten) went for his second swim at South Lake (He can`t seem to hang-on to those plastic docks). Plucked him out of the water - he didn`t seem to mind much. He is also turing in to a 'Catch and Release` kitten - he`ll catch a mouse, vole, chipmunk, or squirrel play with it for a while and then let it go. We finally got to Lo`s cut, so the word around the mountain is "It`s a Lion". And, once again, Hi is just being Hi.
We have our fleet of green fishing boats, 2 kayaks for rent along with a canoe and the Party Boat (pontoon boat) which has propane BBQ for those wanting to fry up some burgers or hot dogs with out on the lake and keep on fishing.
We had a black lab that got out of the owner`s truck on Thursday, May 17th. It was picked up by a father and son who were in a gray - gold - taupe Chevy Z71 extended cab. Please give us a call if you happened to have picked up the dog. The owner extended his trip, stopped by the lake 3 mornings hoping the people who picked up his dog had come back to see if anyone had lost a dog.
Our summer hours are 7:00am to 7:00pm. The cafe will be serving Breakfast from 7:00am to 11:00am and Lunch from 11:00am to 4:00pm everyday at least through Labor Day.
Remember your polarizers, sunscreen, bug juice and PONCHO along with a few layers of clothes - just in case.
