Roy Rose brought Royal Polaris home August 26 after a five-day trip with 36 anglers, who had near-limits of albacore. It was an Okuma Reels charter with Mark Mills as chartermaster.

"Fishing today was excellent," said the repot from the boat August 25. "We had excellent fishing in the afternoon on Albacore in the 20 to 30-pound range, with a few going over 40 pounds. These are beautiful fish. The good thing about today was all the fish we saw. We stopped on school after school. Birds were working most of the afternoon. At times it was hard trying to figure out what school of fish to try. It was the prefect way to end a trip. Our passengers had a blast today, with the good weather and great fishing."

Tim Mitchell of Escondido won first place for a 41.6-pound albacore. He said he bagged it with a sardine on a 4/0 Penn hook and 30-pound Izorline. He used a Penn 506 reel and a seven-foot Sabre rod.

Virgil Chesser of Bakersfield was second, for a 40-pounder, and Daniel Gasca of San Diego won third place for a 40-pound albacore. He also showed off a 36-pound yellowtail, the first big one of the season from the newly-opened waters of Guadalupe Island, where the boat found numerous small yellowfin tuna.
