The Qualifier 105 is on the prowl again. With an early arrival at the dock this am, we were able to turn the boat around and clear Point Loma at 1100 hours. We are headed for the big island of Cedros and hopefully, the epic yellowtail fishing that 2007 has provided for San Diego's long range anglers. In all the hype and concern over the Isla de Guadalupe permits, I think we have all lost sight of what should be the talk of the town. This is the most consistent Big Yellowtail sportfishing in 25 years, if not long range history. It is "EPIC". I repeat "EPIC". If you doubt the veracity of this statement just call Dick Gaydosh, Don or Dan Sansome, Bill Poole a call, these legends would have given their left _______ to have a year of Yellows like this!!!! That brings me to my pet peave regarding YT, the eating of Yellowtail and the rumor that they are gamey. I say BS !!!!! Just a week age at the Sunset Cliffs Surf Clubs annual Gromfest, Billy 'Butter' of Surfside Cuisine took a garbage can full of frozen YT fillets that had been processed by Five Star, defrosted them , carefully trimmed them , marinated them overnight in Mayo and Italian dressing and BBQ'd them to the delight of hundreds kids and grown ups. Call me at the office and say Yellowtail and I will give you Butter's secrets. Give Yellowtail a chance at your table. Wish us luck we should be fishing late tomorrow afternoon.
