Shogun arrived at Fisherman's Landing November 2 after Norm Kagawa took his 24 anglers on a ten-day trip to The Ridge, Alijos Rocks, offshore kelps and San Pablo.

Crewman Mike Jones wrote the entries for the boat's web site. On October 27, he said, "It paid off today, we woke to nice seas and clear skies, good conditions for spotting kelps and that we did. We spent the day offshore looking for kelps, after spotting several large ones we ran towards them, threw some chum in the water and they were biting. We caught Hoos on the troll, sardines and jigs/bombs, along with the Hoos, we kept some very nice mahi-mahi. We fished till dark and Capt. Norm decided to head inshore and further south to look for yft, yellowtail and maybe some more Hoos."

On October 28, he wrote, "Well it was a Hoo of a day, we really busted our butts looking for kelps today and it really paid off. Everyone on the boat has tagged one! It was a very good day; we caught them on the troll, bombs and live bait, along with this action we had big mahi-mahi that were tearing up all the baits that hit the water; non-stop action all day. We did have to break for lunch, though. The weather is still holding up for us, we plan on doing this again tomorrow."

Bill Mumford of Troy, NY got a pair of nice amberjack, and another angler also had one. Mumford said he got the best one on a dropper loop at Alijos, with a sardine bait.

"It was a wonderful fish and a wonderful day," he said. "It's my first time at The Rocks, and it's a great place."

Boib Rubalcaba of Pt. Loma won first place for a 62-pound tuna. "It was a hot fish," he said. It fought harder than 60 pounds; it fought like hell."

He said he got it with a sardine on a 6/0 Eagle Claw ringed circle hook, on 40-pound fluorocarbon leader and 40-pound Soft Steel line. He used a Tiburon 7540 reel and a Seeker Black Steel 6465 rod.

Gary Collins of Irvine was second, for a 52-pound wahoo, and Joe Arimitsu of Simi Valley was third, for a 50-pound wahoo.
