http://www.fishingvideos.comRed Rooster III returned after a five-day Izorline chartered trip to H&M Landing September 17. Skipper Andy Cates tried Guadalupe Island for half a day before heading to Cedros where the island "Once again saved the day."
"Guadalupe wasn't biting like the last time we were there," continued Cates, "but we're going to try it again next trip."
"We went to `Lupe and hookup three yellowfin," said Izorline rep Jim Duntley of Rancho Palos Verde, "but the sharks got `em all. Cedros was beautiful. We had a good group of guys."
Angler Cory Angel of Los Angeles said the yellowtail fishing at Cedros was "?Ķridiculous. No joke, but we were at this one spot, and literally all around the boat, people were yelling `Color! Color!' A lot of action everywhere, the crew was great."
"Izorline let us spool up for free," said angler Andy Ratzky of Los Angeles. "They gave us all a bunch of stuff in the raffles. Everybody got shirts."
Barry Gleiberman of Los Angeles took home first place with a monster 48.4-pound yellow that only took about 15-minutes. Gleiberman flylined a sardine on a 4/0 Mustad hook, Izorline 40-pound test, an Avet reel and a Bluefin rod.
"It was a great fight at first, because he got into the kelp," said Gleiberman. "We were real close to the island, but once I got him out, he came right to the boat. I was surprised because some of the smaller yellows fought harder. We had epic yellowtail fishing at Cedros."
Phil Boncher of San Diego took second place with a 41.7-pound yellow, and George Iwashita of Los Angeles was third for a 40.7-pound yellowtail.
