The water levels are down and the spring like temperatures are bringing more trollers to Shaver. Dick Nichols, of Dick's Fishing Charters, said that it has been hit or miss all week with trollers. Some boats are having good luck with kokanee and an occasional trophy size trout while others are picking up 2 to 3 mixed fish. Nichols suggests trolling at 45 and 65 feet deep with orange Apex or Captain Jack's Super Hoochies, both with corn, behind a dodger or Mini Mountain Flasher. Trying different levels seems to be the trick. Shaver has not been planted with catchable DF&W trout this year, but DF&W have dumped about 40,000 rainbow fingerling and 1,000 trophy sized trout since the first of the year. Bank fishermen report a few fish ranging from hold over catchables to a few of the trophy sized trout near the Point, Edison campground and roads one and two. Power Bait and crawlers are normally the best bait.
