http://www.sportfishingreport.comWe shoved off out of H&M Landing aboard the Ranger 85 for a two-day trip sponsored by Pro Gear Reels and Sportfishingreport.com. SFR raffled off T-Shirts and Seaguar Fluorocarbon and Danny Jimenez of Pro Gear Reels had a mountain of raffle prizes including two Pro Gear Reels, awesome tuna jigs, trolling feathers, pliers, and much more!
Captain Frank Ursitti and his Crew provided us with another incredible experience. Their extraordinary service, experience, and love for fishing make every trip memorable. The plan was to head 90 miles South-West in search for some Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail, and Dorado. We threw the feathers out at dawn and went patty hopping. The first few kelp patties didn't show any signs of life, however around noon we corralled some schools. When Captain Frank turns his vessel for a bait circle, you're almost certain to get a jig strike. It's amazing to see the school come up on the side sonar and strike the jigs.
We put a nice scratch together on the Yellowfin on Day 1 including a very nice Bull Dorado caught by Robert Gould. On Day 2 we began hammering them right at first light. We picked up the sea anchor and trolled approximately 50 yards before finding ourselves in a wide open bite! These were bigger model fish with a few well over 30 pounds. Twenty-two anglers landed 17 Yellowtail, 151 Yellowfin Tuna, and 2 Dorado.
The Ranger 85 will be moving up north to Oxnard and will be running out of Channel Islands Sportfishing fishing for White Seabass, Halibut, Yellowtail, Quality Rockfish and Giant San Miguel Whitefish. Give Randy a call at 619-997-9993 or email him at info@ranger85.com to book your next fishing trip. Or you can call Channel Islands Sportfishing for more information at 805-382-1612.
