Fishing Report

This past week started out with a bang, but the wind drove everyone inside to seek shelter and hot chocolate. The bears have been very active as their internal clocks are telling them it's time to eat heavy and fast as sleep is approaching. The baby bear has been sitting on my railing (2x4) eating bird food, so that tells you that there is very little for them to eat during these last days of the season. Even though there is still about 3 weeks left, the time of open water up here will be about 18 days until the temperatures drop enough to ice over the lakes. Windy conditions have prevailed most of the week making it uncomfortably cool, but the fish are still coming out. Inflated crawlers with trout dip and salmon peach power bait have been the best ways to get a limit if you have the clothes to keep you warm. All lakes in the canyon are doing about the same on the same things, and most fish for about an hour get hot chocolate and look for warmer temperatures. Fly anglers have done well most of the week on olive wooly buggers and also bunny leaches in olive with some flash. This will probably be my last report of the season unless I get a chance to hit the water and do some research?Ķ.see you on the water?Ķ.carolyn

Todd & Bev Tanaka of La Habra hit the right combination of flies to bring in 4 trophy fish ranging from 4 3/4 lbs to 5 3/4 lbs on Olive Matuka's, and Olive and Black wooly buggers from tubes on Little Virginia. Dennis Boorsman and family......

Winter snuck in with 2 days of wind and leaving about 4" of snow to make traveling the Virginia Lakes Road icy and treacherous for those with bad tires or even worse, "bad" driving skills. Park Service closed both Sonora and Tioga passes for a couple days but they are now open and ready for traveling to your favorite fishing spot. Virginia Lakes has continued to thrive among the best "spots" for catching during this fall color change. The......
