"Weather continues to be outstanding," wrote Dharyl Shelbourne for the Royal Polaris Internet report November 3. "We had flat seas today, clear skies and a very warm day. It was a perfect day for tanning, but that's not what we came down here for.

"Fishing today was incredible, with Wahoo, Dorado, and Marlin all putting on a great show. I've been working on the Royal Polaris for over 15 years, and I've never seen Marlin fishing like this. I'll bet we released over 80 Marlin today, all over the century mark, and a few Sailfish to boot. Wahoo fishing was also on the upswing, with a few large Dorado. Most of the Wahoo are in the 40 to 50-pound class, and the Dorado are in the 18 to 25-pound category. We ended up with 46 Wahoo and 20 Dorado, and who knows how many Marlin we released. All Marlin were released."

Skipper Roy Rose docked the rig at Fisherman's Landing November 8 after the ten-day limited load trip with 20 anglers. He said the tuna they caught were at Alijos Rocks, with the best one taken by Bob Kubota on the kite.

The best troll-caught wahoo came to Roger Bill of San Diego, a 69.4-pounder that bit on a Marauder.

Mike Inscore of Redondo Beach won first place for a 63-pound wahoo that chomped down hard on a Salas 6X Jr. Tar Baby jig. Mike said he fished with 50-pound blue Izorline on a Penn Baja Special reel and a Calstar six and a half-foot rod wrapped by Pete at Just Fishin'.

Ron Lewis of San Francisco won second place for a 56-pound wahoo, and Chico Leonard of Alpine took third place with a 43.6-pound wahoo.
