The seminar provides expert advice on the benefits and proper use of hiking poles, often referred to as trekking poles or walking sticks.
"Hiking poles are becoming increasingly popular as hikers are discovering their many positive benefits," said Susan Herrgesell, BOW California president. "With the proper instruction that this seminar offers, the hiking poles will feel like an extra pair of legs."
Herrgesell said that when used correctly, hikers using poles will achieve more power when moving uphill and reduce knee stress while coming downhill. The walking tools improve performance and stability on all terrain. Top quality poles will be provided for participants.
Lead by hiking pole expert Jayah Faye Paley, the field seminar's location in Marin County places it in one of the premier destinations for hiking in Northern California. Paley is the creator of the DVD, "Hiking Poles: Techniques & Tips for All Ages and Abilities."
Paley's instruction will show how hiking poles help outdoor enthusiasts avoid muscle strains to hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders. The seminar will cover a variety of terrain, including streams, bridges and rocky roads.
Paley says the tools help convert energy into an effective upper body workout. An added benefit is the use of more muscles while walking which will facilitates fat-burning efficiency and weight loss.
To register, go to www.bowcalifornia.org or call (530) 347-0227. The class cost $45 and is limited to the first 15 participants.
The seminar will provide instruction through multi-level training and drills that are appropriate for all levels of hikers and trekkers.
