Report Date:
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/news/The inaugural edition of The Lake Davis Update, the official newsletter of the proposed Lake Davis Pike Eradication Project, has been released to the public. "This is part of our continuing effort to keep the public informed and involved in the Lake Davis Eradication Project," said Ed Pert, Lake Davis project manager. The newsletter, regularly published by the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG), has been mailed to interested parties throughout the state and can also be found online at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/northernpike/newsletters/2006_april.pdf The full Scoping Report for the proposed project is also available online at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/northernpike/scopereport.html and printed copies of the report and appendices are available at various locations throughout Plumas County and Sacramento. The report summarizes the comments received by DFG and the U.S. Forest Service, Plumas National Forest, (USFS) during the public scoping period, from Sept. 14 to Oct. 31, 2005. DFG and USFS held four scoping meetings in Portola and Sacramento last September to solicit comments on the proposed project and more than a hundred people offered comments during the scoping period. On Sept. 14, 2005 DFG filed a Notice of Preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for a proposed project at Lake Davis, a 4,000-acre reservoir located in the Plumas National Forest. At the same time the USFS issued a Notice of Intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement. These announcements began an extensive process of state and federal environmental reviews. A draft EIR/EIS is being prepared and will be circulated sometime this year for public review and comment. After completion of the environmental review process, DFG anticipates making a decision in late 2006 or 2007 whether or not to approve a project to eradicate northern pike from Lake Davis. In the event a project is approved in late 2006 or early 2007, possible treatment could occur in late summer/early fall 2007.
