Despite the warm water temperature, flat lining Rapalas of every color and pattern are working best for trollers. Chartreuse dough bait, chrome kastmasters, and worms are the best bet for shore fishermen around the marina area. The bass have also been hitting trolling kures on the grassy flat just west of Lil Cachuma. Pearl white and green pumpkin plastics fished in the 8-15ft range off of the flats have produced limits of both small and largemouth. Though the heaviest catfish reported this week only hit 2.5 lbs. many smaller cats were caught in Bobcat canyon and Cachuma Bay on nightcrawlers and mackerel.

The annual fishing derby, open to all species this year, brought anglers of all ages to the lake in hopes of catching the largest fish. Supplemented by 6000lbs of rainbow trout, limits were caught left and right. Chrome and gold colored Kastmasters, bronze/black Rapalas, 3in. trout, worms, mice tails, and trout dough from chartreuse to red/white/blue were the popular trout baits thiw week. Many limits of bass were caught this week. With the water temperature in the mid 60's, ideal conditions for bedding bass, most were caught in the 5-15 range. Rattletraps, plastic worms, jigs, crankbaits and spinner baits did the trick. Though averaging 2.25 lbs, a few 4-5 lb. largemouth were caught in Cachuma Bay. The catfish bit the best in Johnson Bay and Clark Canyon on standard stink bait and worm set ups. Crappie were tougher to catch this week in......
