Hey folks-

We awoke to flat calm seas and balmy weather on the anchor. The yellowtail never left the boat since yesterday evening and soon after daylight the tuna showed up to join the party. The yellowtail were the more aggressive of the two but in every direction you looked you could see tuna puddling and jumping as they were feeding on the abundant pelagic crab. After the guys had their fill on yellowtail we switched over to all flyline gear to try and catch some YFT but the yellowtail were relentless. I guess it’s a good problem to have though! We decided to try deeper water to see if we could get away from the yellows and get straight tuna. As soon as the anchor was up i ousted the binos and looked northwest to see two large breezers of tuna up about a half mile away, up current of the shallow. We threw a long chum line through one of the schools and it boiled up instantly. After plopping the anchor back over the side in about 50fa of water we scratched at the tuna. Even though there was tonnage around it never really went wide open today.

After a couple hours of picking at the tuna we decided since we had over a hundred of each yellowtail and tuna for the day that we would go west and try for some trophies. After a couple hour’s run we saw several big fish blowing out but each time we went over to where they were at they gave us the slip. Sometimes they just don’t want to play. We are going to go South about 120 miles tonight and try the big fish banks off of Mag bay. It has been unchecked this year and the possibility for some exotics like wahoo and dorado or a tuna over 100# is drawing us down there. We already have a great catch onboard and have a day to burn. If it doesn’t work out we plan on coming back up and fishing the Ridge again. We also plan on going into Mag bay and making a couple tanks of mackerel to try for trophy yellows and seabass. Wish us luck we will check in tomorrow.

If you would like to go fishing with us please BOOK ONLINE or call (619) 226-8030 to get in on the action.
