Water temperature was 78 – 80 degrees. This week’s catch was a little slow due to the warmer weather, but some lucky anglers are still bringing up a few fish. The favorite fish of the week seems to be the catfish again, with them biting on the use of mackerel and night crawlers in the back of coves and along muddy banks. Along with the cats biting, small mouth bass have been doing pretty steady as well. Fishing for bass have been better in the morning but decent during the day as well. Night crawlers and lures are the key for 1.5 to 2lb small mouth right now, even a angler using mackerel pulled a nice smallie. The trout fishing has picked up a little with fishing at first light paying off with the use of deep running lures and heavy weighted lines still near the dam. Along with trout, crappie has started up again with a group of anglers pulling in 8 keepers and even more little guys thrown back with just the use of feather jigs. Private boats for the week have been mostly after small mouth with the total caught in two days above 40’s. As well one carp was shot last week using a blow, location unknown.

The catfish bite is taking off again as six limits were reported during the week. Sinking mackerel, worms, and stink baits were the popular methods and even chewing gum seemed to attract the hungry cats. Cachuma Bay was the hot spot for both catfish and bass as a few 3-4lb largemouth were pulled out off the rocky bank on the west end. Additionally, the small mouth have been extremely active the last couple weeks. Spinner baits and speed traps are killing it along Jack Rabbit......
