Despite the 90+ degree weather, the catfish continue to be caught in abundance. The majority of fishermen have been getting 4 – 6 catfish each per trip and throwing them back to be caught again. A couple five pounders were brought in this week from Cachuma Bay. Nightcrawlers, mackerel, and chicken livers are essential for a consistent bite. Additionally, roughly a 30lb catfish has been responsible for pulling 8 -10 rods out of sand spikes and spooling fishermen on 30lb test line over the last month. Recently named ‘’Kitty’’, this catfish has created such a big hype that the marina is offering a free boat rental to whoever can reel in this potential record breaker. The bluegill and crappie have been biting well around Drake Cove and the Mohawk Area with white, pink and chartreuse jigs. A fair amount of smallmouth bass have been hooked up on using the same method given the amount of good structure in the area.

The bass continues to favor crank baits and nightcrawlers in the......

The favorite fish of the week seems to be the catfish again, with them biting on the use of mackerel and night crawlers in the back of coves and along muddy banks. Along with......
