http://www.lakesabrinaboatlanding.comStill a bit of smoke around from the Rough Fire. The mornings seem to be the clearest, but you never know. Had a few sprinkles Wednesday afternoon. The Lake has dropped about two feet in the last week and will probably continue to drop at that level. The Aspen & Willows are turning their Fall shade of colors and a few are losing their leaves – might we have an early Fall and then Winter – that’s Mom’s secret for now.
Saw more fish coming out of the Lake this past week – catching is picking around the Inlets using NightCrawlers or PowerBait. Troll in deeper waters (about 40’ down) with Lures with a bit of red or Flasher with a NightCrawlers. Drift thru the channels and around the rock piles with NightCrawlers or PowerBait. Shorefish with NightCrawlers or PowerBait. The state planted us with fish on Wednesday.
Local Kendis Harter picked up a nice 2-1/2 pounder on a NeedleFish. Chris Azpeitia of Chino, also, landed a 2-1/2 pounder but on a Red and Gold Thomas Buoyant. Morgan (10yrs) Hobbs still has a few tricks to learn from Dad Shane. Morgan’s fish – 1-3/4lbs, Dad’s fish – 2-3/4lbs. Fun times catching dinner were had by Jeff Miller Junior and Senior, Kelly Dougherty and Bailey MacDonald using PowerBait. Garrett & Jason Vairin hiked up DingleBerry Creek a few weeks ago and sent a photo of a beautiful Paiute Trout. Back in May, I missed a posting a photo of DieHard Fisherman Joseph Warner with a great Spring stringer.
IT’S FAIR TIME. The Fair starts Thursday, September 3 with a concert featuring county singer Austin Webb. Friday the 4th is the FMX Show and ATV Rodeo. On Saturday, Sept 5, you’ve got the Locals Rodeo Bull & Broncs and Sunday night the 6th is the Destruction Derby. And don’t forget all the other fun stuff – the Carnival, Pie Contest, Fiesta Barn Contest, Arts and Crafts and Photography – such fun at the Fair.
September 18-20 is the Millpond Music Festival, an amazing, relaxing and fun weekend in the heart of the Eastern Sierra. Featuring an awesome & eclectic mix of performers on the Main Stage, workshop tent performances, children's activities, art vendors, and great food too! On-site camping is available.
Unfortunately, the smoke from the Rough Fire is with us for a tad bit longer. September is a month of change and it looks like the temps this week will get a bit cooler. Highs are forecast to be in the high 60s and lowering to the mid 60s over Labor Day Weekend. Lows are expected to be in the low 40s to high 30s. There are no thunderboomers, rain or snow in the forecast. You can check out the weather forecast according to Howard our local weather ‘guesser’ at www.MammothWeather.com. You can also check out www.weather.gov – enter Aspendell, CA (which is the little community right below Lake Sabrina) in the search field and you’ll get the forecast for at the higher elevation. You may need to scroll down on the webpage to see the temps.
As Fall approaches, Lake Sabrina Boat Landing will be closing the Café on Sunday, September 6th, 2015. We’ll still have homemade pie and homemade ice cream along with ice, candy, chips, snacks, soda, water, beer and wine available. Please note our Fall hours:

Once again we had fisherman throwing away fish - One of our pet peeves is people catching fish, wanting to have their picture taken for the webpage and then trying to give their fish away. If you don’t plan on eating the fish you caught, please plan ahead – bring a camera to record your catches on the Lake, use good catch and release techniques by using barbless hooks (or just crimp down the barbs with pliers), avoid extensive handling, wet your hands, net and other materials that may come into contact with the fish, NEVER TOUCH THE GILLS, keep the fish fully submerged and upright, allowing it to swim away under its own power. If it’s bleeding, you’re having fish for dinner!
Remember to keep your sunscreen and any other Foo-Foo juices off your hands – fish don’t like the taste or smell.
If you’re coming to the Lake, don’t forget sunscreen and dark glasses –that sun is pretty bright against the blue sky and the glare off the water. Also, if you’re prone to allergies, don’t forget your meds! AND DON’T FORGET A JACKET and a PONCHO!
If your hiking with a dog, watch their paws – many ‘city’ dogs are not quite prepared for a long hike on the trail. Still seeing a number of hikers carrying their furry friends down from the backcountry this weekend.
If you’re planning on hiking – PLEASE BE PREPARED – hike with a buddy – leave a note on where you’re headed – when you’re expected back – what you’re wearing – take plenty of water & food – dress in layers – you’ll start out cool, but will probably warm up – CHECK THE WEATHER! Not only is your life on the line, so are the Search and Rescue Teams. Also, if you meet stock on the trail, please go to the low-side, that way if the mules are startled they’ll go to the high side and not down the canyon.
All campgrounds are now open in the Bishop Creek Canyon. Bishop Creek Lodge, Creekside RV Park, Cardinal Village Resort and Parchers Resort are all open.
