http://norcal.fishreports.comSurface temps around 55 degrees and dropping. Clarity about 8 to 10 ft. depending where you are. Current lake levels from the Dept of water Resources as of 10/22/2015; 4475.67 foot elevation, 867635 acre storage feet. Lake levels are noticeably lower and currently it's raining, but lake access is still good. Canyon Dam ramp is open with dock, while the USFS ramp is open, but they pulled the dock last month. Private community ramps like Almanor West and Lake Almanor Country Club's (LACC) Rec. 1 and 2 ramps are still open with docks for easy access. Rec. 1 ramp not advisable for larger boats. Cooler surface temps have fish close to the surface. Reports around Almanor are all saying the same thing, “fish are in the top 15 ft. of water” and moving into the shallows. The bite has not been hot, however the guys that get up early and “work it” are always going to do better. Canyon Dam to Rocky Point seems to be the hottest trolling lane the past 10 days. Other places like Hamilton Branch to Big Springs, Rec. 1 to the A-Frame have reported quality fish from 2 pounders to 4.8 lbs. Reports indicate that hits are coming off a variety of trolled presentations. Fast action lures like Speedy Shiners, Needlefish, Moose Looks Wobblers, and Rapalas have all boasted hook ups. Even ripping trolling flies and Slow action rigs like Dodger Crawler combos have been getting hits. Hamilton Branch fly fishermen are getting Rainbows near the power house, which is not running. Plumas Pines to the USFS ramp has been another spot worth a look. We had fish up to 3.8 lbs. during our last trip over there. We are moving directly into brown trout spawning time, and hens will be making nests preparing to spit. Some of the biggest browns and rainbows are caught during spawn. Release the browns, try not to use a net. Besides the Brown's meat is not that good during spawn..but the Rainbows are another story. Bigger Rainbows will be looking for eggs floating away from spawning Browns. These Rainbows look great and will provide you with terrific battles.
