http://www.countyofsb.org/parks/cachuma.sbc Catfish was the top bite yet again this week. Shore fishermen did well around the marina while boaters reported a nice array of 1-3 pounders. Mackerel, nightcrawlers, and even little chunks of hot dogs were successful in attracting the channel cats. Surprisingly, chicken liver was not. The smallmouth bass were a little more active in the morning around Cachuma Bay point and seemed to stop biting in the afternoon. Cranks and curly tail jigs were the most popular baits used. Additionally, a few good sized carp were hooked up on by fishermen floating worms off the bottom in Mohawk Bay and are always a great fight.

Water temperature was 56 degrees. Fishing was definitely tough this week. Many fishermen reported bites all over the lake but had trouble getting a good hook set and landing the fish. The few successful fishermen stuck with a slightly bigger hook and a smaller piece of bait to land some nice channel cats. The colder water slows down their metabolism so bigger chunks of bait will translate to more nibbles than hard hits. The bass were also picky and seemed......
