Hot Creek Update

There is significant snow in the canyon, all wheel drive needed to get to the NFS gate. Water flows have come up thanks to run-off from Mammoth Creek, & conditions are good. On warmer days the “catching” has improved overall; however overall fishing is slow this winter due to low fish counts. You may experience heavy ice in the softer eddies, & pools during sub-zero air temps. Midges & attractor patterns are best during winter months. Very small pheasant tails, & bird’s nest patterns are best for nymphs. Small parachute midge; or mayfly patterns used with a 10 foot leader are best for surface presentations when the fish are on the midges/or clusters. SJ worms, crystal eggs, & crystal leeches good calls in the deepest pools. There are a few sections that can be fished with a dry dropper nymph rig.
