http://www.myoutdoorbuddy.comRed Bluff's Greg Gutierrez rode his second day limit of 15lb 13 oz in tough rainy and windy conditions to lead the Costa FLW Western Series presented by Minn-Kota event at Lake Shasta. Greg followed the Friday success into Saturday's top 10 final showdown with a solid 5 bass limit of 13 lbs 5 oz. to solidify the lead and take home the $36,176.00 first prize.
Marysville pro Richard Dobyns, the Day 1 leader finished in second place behind Greg. Local favorite and Lakehead resident Jeff Michels finished in a very respectable sixth place.
A wide variety of techniques were employed as anglers struggled with windy and rainy weather the first two days. Everything from spinnerbaits, crank baits, jerk baits, a-rigs, swimbaits and jigs were used as well as most any type of soft plastic worm presentation. Most anglers used swimbaits and a-rigs in search of their “kicker” fish.
Co-angler honors of a nice $27,000.00 check and first place trophy went to Jack Farage of Discovery Bay. The Cal Poly team of Nick Rinauro of San Jose and Alec Pitts of Santa Rosa took first place honors in the FLW College Fishing Western Conference one day event also held Saturday on Shasta with a 5 bass limit of 12 lb 3 oz.
The next Costa FLW Western Series event will be on Clear Lake April 21-23 2016 with the final event on the California Delta May 19-21.
