Report Date:
http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=537We had great weather this week. It was nice warm with a little wind made for
some great fishing conditions. Next week we expect more of the same type of weather. Water temperature is right around 72 degrees here at the marina but by the Dam it is a cool 65 degrees. We did have a Trout plant this week from Mt. Lassen, 750 lbs of Trout, maybe are last Trout plant we will see.
The Trout bite has slowed down however we are still seeing anglers catching them. They are down in deeper around twenty feet deep. The best bait to use is night crawlers or Powerbait with a garlic scent. Mice tails are also very popular with anglers along with kastmasters and Rapalas.
The hot bite this week is Stripe Bass. Many anglers are catching limits averaging
4 to 6 lbs. Most anglers are using Anchovies, Chicken Livers, Mackerel and Sardines. Most anglers are catching them by the Dam and in the narrows. They seem to be in
about 10 to fifteen feet of water chasing Trout and Shad. Come on out and try your luck.
The Catfish bite is picking up. As the water warms up they are getting active. We will soon be planting Cats. Best baits would be Chicken Livers, Anchovies, Mackerel and Sardines. We also Carry stink bait from G and S which works very well. If you target the Catfish look for areas with cover, down trees, grassy areas some place for them to hide. Most Cats that are being caught have been in shallow water.
Black Bass has been good. They are still protecting their young and in fairly
shallow water. Anglers have been using Robo worms, crappie rigs. Some anglers for bait use Night Crawlers or Red Worms. Most anglers just do a catch and release, we want the Black Bass population to grow here in the lake.
Hi Bob-
Al Hurwitz of Saratoga and Abbey Lev of Sunnyvale fished the lake on 6/9/16. We caught a few Smallmouth Bass, including this nice one (pictured) caught by Abbey weighing 2 plus pounds. The Smallies were hooked while trolling Panther Martin
Spinners about 10 feet below the surface in both Heron and Swallow Bays. The
Smallmouth Bass fishing is slowly picking up and should be improving further as the summer approaches.
All the best Al Hurwitz
