GENERAL CONDITIONS

The weather has been generally mild with mostly sunny days and the occasional clouds coming through. The wind has been up, gusting harder up to 20 mph in the afternoons. The lake surface temperature is still high, staying around 74 degrees.

CATFISH

We are still getting catfish bites from the peninsula. Anglers have caught them from the point of the peninsula as well as the northern side of the neck of the peninsula. We have not received a catfish plant yet, so these bites are all from a population that has been thriving in the lake since at least last year.

TROUT

Trout is still a little slow. There have been bites this last week, but all within a few days after our trout plant. This plant has seen anglers having less success on lures and minimal success with bait. The surface temperature is high and the trout seem to be sluggish and driving into deeper water columns. There have been a few bites reported on the far (south) end of horseshoe lake in deeper waters.

BASS

We haven’t received many reports from anglers on big bass bites. However, on walking around Horseshoe Lake in the early morning and late evening bass can be seen in shallow waters of the lake near brush along Western Pacific and Old Creek trails. As the temperatures rise the largemouth tend to feed less during the warm days and tend to move deeper. Traditionally, Largemouth will feed more heavily in the late evening as they move back into shallower waters. Look for areas with schools of bait fish and try using crankbaits, top-water lures, jigs, and plastic worms. Use smaller lures through the day (non-heavy feeding times) and larger lures in the early mornings and late evenings (heavy feeding times).
