"Alijos Rocks started to bite pretty good on the last day," remarked Shawn. Unfortunately, we had to leave. Isn't it always like that?"
The best wahoo of the trip was a 63-pounder that bit on a pink Burns Bomb for Nick Vondouris of hacienda Heights.
Dan Colonello of Valencia won first place for a 96-pound yellowfin tuna. "He fought good," said Dan. "He took me around the boat once and wrapped around the anchor line. Joe Crisci got me off."
Dan said he fished a chunk on a 6/0 Super Mutu hook, tied to 60-pound Big Game line and 80-pound Spectra backing. He used a TLD 30 reel and a 765 L rod.
Pete Price of Seattle won second place for a 91-pound tuna. Dave Karlin of San Diego was third, for a 75-pounder. The group was joined by Jerry Alexander of Reno, NV and his 48-pound yellowtail. The mossback came on a dropper loop.
