THE CABO SAN LUCAS FISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE

The billfish bite continues, albeit, it did slow up a little as the full moon weighed-in as a negative element. (I would expect it to rebound with a vengeance following the full moon). High boat was the "Gaviota VIII", with Captain Juan Dominguez, releasing 12 stripers for 5 fishing days. Overall combined counts for 47 fishing days with the Gaviota Fleet and Fish Cabo boats reflected 72 stripers, (70 releases) 14 yellowfin tuna and 6 dorado.

Cabo Climate: Sunny during the early week and turning to partly cloudy days from mid-week, on, with temps that varied from 54 nights to 78 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: There's a long band of warmer water that stretches from Todos Santos to San Jose and out to about 10 miles, at 71 degrees. There's a warmer band of water out to the south of Cabo Falso and over to the 95-Fathom Spot, from about 10 miles offshore to about 25 miles offshore, which is the warmest water throughout the area.

Best Fishing Area: The Golden Gate Bank is still at the upper end of the fish catching areas, but billfish are still being caught at the "Jaime Bank" and the Cabo Falso drop-off.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait is best, especially the Pacific mackerel, tossed to the feeders, slow-trolled on the banks or dropped back to a riser on the lures.

Live Bait Supply: Just OK, with some of the boats being able to add to their mackerel bait supply at the Golden Gate and Cabo Falso drop-off.

THE MAZATLAN FISH EPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET

The full moon and cooling water temperatures have apparently pushed much of the fish away from the area and made for some very difficult fishing days for the anglers and the skippers. While the inshore fishing allowed for more action, even those catches were slowed down. It would appear that we are going to have to get through the full moon phase and a few degrees of water temp increase to remotivate the fish bite. The overall offshore catches for 21 fishing days reflected 4 stripers, 1 sailfish and 1 yellowfin tuna. The inshore catches for 7 super panga fishing days reflected 23 grouper, 15 toro, 12 conejos, 15 loras and 10 mojarras

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy with temps ranging from 46 nights to 82 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm, but cooler waters, with temps from 67 inshore to 68-69 offshore, still clean & blue

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits caught all of the billfish.

Best Fishing Area: There is no accumulation of fish in the area at this time

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISH REPORT - THE INDEPENDENT FLEET

Even the full moon could not cool off the red hot bite last week in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo. Our captains reported a noticeable decrease in the amount of bait in the area which contributed to a more willing population of SAILFISH and DORADO. The Blue water is within 7 miles of Shore. Although Sailfish and Dorado continue to dominate the daily catches our captain have reported seeing big numbers of Yellowfin Tuna along with some Blue Marlin as well. The tuna are running with the Porpoises and are unwilling to bite. Of Notable catches for the week is European Angler Mr Rasmus Petersen who fished with the Super pangas Tarpon and Dos Hermanos 2. Of five days his group landed 106 Fish which comprised 2 BLUE MARLIN, 14 SAILFISH, 9 DORADO 2 ROOSTERFISH, 1 YELLOWFIN TUNA and a host on smaller Bonitos Needlefish and Yellowtail Jacks. Mr. Stevens, fishing aboard the "Marcel", landed 10 sailfish, 4 dorado and 10 jack cravelle for 3 fishing days and the "Duquesa" reported 4 sailfish and 3 dorado for 2 fishing days. Captain Adolofo Reported 15 SAILFISH (6) On a fly as well as 6 DORADOS in five offshore days. Captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook also had a busy week landing 13 SAILFISH and 5 DORADOS. It has been quite awhile since we have had Tuna and Marlin this early in the season. March and April have historically been our best months for these two trophies and we still have good availability.

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo weather: Beautiful calm days, temps from 73 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Calm, very little breeze, temps from 81 inshore to 83 offshore.

Bait Supply: Good
