Monday 50º 5:31/8:28 Clear and cooler early am
Tuesday 54º 5:31/8:28 Clear with light haze from heat, smelled like rain at 6am
Wednesday 53º 5:32/8:26 Clear and very warm some clouding but no precip
Thursday 51º  5:33/8:25 Cloudy early and increasing, but still no precip
Friday 52º 5:33/8:24 Cloudy early and increasing, but still no precip.
Saturday 40º 5:34/8:23 Clear and calm

Again the week started out much warmer than the previous one but a light wind came in last Friday dropping the temp on Saturday. CalTrans is currently repairing the remainder of the rock fall project that started last summer. Upon completion they will probably start moving the barriers to finish the hillside work from 2015, so there will be delays with signals for one way traffic in each direction shortly.
The stock truck arrived Tuesday with 400 pounds including trophies. Trumble and Big Virginia also got stocked including trophies.

BAIT: Night crawlers have dominated the number one spot for most of the summer. Orange glitter and pink mice tails, pink powerworm are holding at number two, yellow glitter garlic powerbait, and salmon peach are also taking a lot of trout. Salmon eggs on size 14-16 egg hooks are also doing well. For the best action on a mice tail use the new light wire hooks by Owner called Mosquito hooks and be sure and ask how to hook the mice tails for the best results.

LURES: The best action was on red/gold Buoyant's, Kastmasters, some Rapala's. Always try all your favorite hardware until the fish find the "action" they are looking for. Remember to use the lure properly by adding the right swivel for the best action. Not much change here.

FLY AND BUBBLE: Surface midge hatches were going off in dry fly heaven most of the week but early morning and late afternoon with California Mosquito and Grey Hackle yellow size 14, black elk hair caddis, midge cluster and black ants. Also try some Black Gnat para #14, Cowdung #14, Adams Female #14.

Best action is ALWAYS when their is a chop on the water which is usually late afternoon to legal limit at night.

FLY RODS: Black Matuka, Blue Damsel's, poxy-back Callibaetis, black woolly buggers, red throat olive Matuka's, olive Loberg's, cluster midges, Black gnats, Black Gnat parachute size 14 and skinny stillwater nymph. If you tie your own flies, make sure you use less material than normal for high elevation waters, trout are short biting buggers so pinch them with your fingernail, it's better than using scissors.

BACKCOUNTRY: Fishing is always good early in the season depending on time of day, surface hatches and of course the wind. Mostly dry flies with a bubble or fly rod on small gnats, mosquitoes, small Brite Dot, stillwater nymphs and olive elk hair caddis sizes 16-18, stay small on all flies this early in the season. Lure angler action has been good on small gold Super Duper's, Mepps 00, and small Bouyant's. Early morning and early evening are the best times for any action. This is pretty consistent for the canyon. Come and ask me what's hot. Please keep only what you can eat, it is a valuable resource.

Also, If the trout bleeds, it's yours, PLEASE don't toss it back into the lake as it will die. If you care about the resource please be careful when releasing fish back into the lake. Also, IT ATTRACKS BEARS!

Mother Nature rescinded her attempt at scaring us but it turned nice again for most of last week with a few scattered thin clouds hovering today. Next Wednesday has a slight prediction of some rain, but that's a few days away and things always change. A few Alpers are still getting caught but very sporatic. DFG stocked all 3 on the 11th. Fishing has been good and great if you know what you are doing. Night crawlers are still......
