Smith River Fish Report
Smith River - Smith River, CA (Del Norte County)

Local guide Kevin Brock reported decent steelhead action from the Smith River this past week. "Some days we get five or six fish, on Tuesday we hooked five and got three up to 12 pounds. Typically the fish have been seven to nine pounds, but our largest in the past week was 17 pounds.
"Most of the fish are biting on Pro-Cure natural roe with a pink or orange puff ball, but some are also being caught on silver/black #30 Luhr Jensen Hotshots. No 20-pounders have been caught in the last week, but the overall catch on the Smith is bigger than average this year.
"The conditions are great; we have lots of water and expect rain this week. If the Chetco or Eel Rivers bow out, we can get some crowds, and presentation is important when that happens.
"We managed to win the team competition division this week during the Cal-Ore Steelhead Derby, which is a two-day event that fishes both the Smith and Chetco Rivers. Points are based on cumulative inches of steelhead released."

Irvine Lake trout action good, 8.1 pounder tops
Irvine LakeTrout action at Irvine Lake held up despite mixed weather conditions, according to Jimmy Getty at the Pro Shop. "It's been really good" observed Getty. "Both trolling and bait fishing are working well. We can't catch a break with the weather though. We've had rain, bluebird skies, Santa Ana winds and Arctic winds just since Saturday." Trollers dragged firetiger-color Rapalas in the CD05, CD03 and CD01 sizes, with best results seen mid-lake. Bait anglers used white or yellow Gulp! eggs or...... Read More
