That old saying that bigger is not better, simply is not true. Today we were treated to a solid day of fishing with a bigger grade of tuna mixed in. We had a half dozen fish over 100lbs and lost at least twice that many. We had another bunch of personal bests including my buddy Alex McGeever who received his first two PB showers for a 60lber followed by a 75lber. Alex is a testament to rail time, good attitude and perseverance. He went 0 for 6 on the first day and decided to forego lunch on the second to land his personal best. Yes, he received a full body spray for his efforts.

My brother, Glenn Hieshima also landed two personal bests including a hundred lber he swears was 300lbs (that was the reasons for the incessant whining about how hard it is to land a tuna). Other notable personal bests included:

Big fish honors today go to my Dad, Grant who landed our biggest of the trip so far at 128lbs. This is a trip he has been looking forward to for many months (since his 30th heart procedure) and one he wasn’t sure he could do. I’m really glad he is here and we are with him to enjoy this incredible experience.

Speaking of experience, the crew is making this a trip to remember. Captain Jonathon is making all the right calls, the crew is saving fish after fish and captain Roy keeps everyone entertained from the bait tank comedy club. Chefs’ Dave and Mark’s cooking has been phenomenal. The best thing about all this is we have 2 more days in Paradise on the RP. Wish us luck!

One last note, wanted to give a shout out to my good friend Frank LoPreste (at least he thinks he’s my friend) who is recovering from a pretty significant back surgery. I feel so bad for Kathy as I’m sure my large Italian friend is about as easy to take care of as an injured Cape Buffalo in heat. In any case, we wish you a speedy recovery, get well soon! You guys would love the pink flowers Gary Cotter and I sent him as a get well present along with a card saying ” Stop being such a wussy!” Love ya Frank!
