Marina Del Rey Anglers Youth Fishing Program

Marina Del Rey Anglers runs one of the largest, longest lasting Youth Fishing Programs in California.?? Each summer our club charters the "Betty O", for 22 days.?? We introduce inner-city youth, many from challenging and at-risk environs, to ocean fishing and the conservation and ecological issues we face here in Southern California and to provide each youth with greater self esteem.?? Each day we invite different groups to participate in our program.?? We run two half-day trips daily out of Marina Del Rey.?? On each trip the youths are supplied with fishing equipment, live bait, soft drinks, snacks and even more important individual fishing instruction from our mentors.?? Our mentors consist of volunteers from our fishing club. The trips are all catch and release trips to promote conservation and Polaroid photos are taken and given to the kids with their fish to commemorate the occasion.

The groups participating in our program are from various organizations, including, the Boy's and Girl's clubs, the Sheriff's Dept. Youth Athletic League, the Los Angeles Police Department DAP youth groups, homes caring for children who are wards of the court, The Braille Institute, two groups of children with Autism and Downs Syndrome and numerous groups from the Department of Children and Family Services.?? This summer we have 44 trips planned and our goal is to take over 1200 youths out on the ocean.?? The funding for these trips comes from the proceeds of the Marina Del Rey Halibut Derby.?? MDRA is a non-profit corporation under the IRS

501c3 rules.?? All labor for the MDR Halibut Derby and the Youth Fishing Program is volunteer labor from club members.?? Your donations are tax deductible.
