The last week of the Pot of Gold Halibut Derby aboard the Icon is drawing to a close with a huge weekend, the top 3 fish of the week so far have been over 20 lbs each with a lot of fish over 10 lbs as well. Needless to say the Top 25 list to qualify for the fishoff has seen a lot of action this week as people get bumped off being replaced by the deluge of big halibut! There is one make up day on Tuesday however the current leader of week 8 is Dan Long of Long Beach with a 28.90 lbs. halibut placing him in 2nd place overall, he is followed closely by Emerson Holden of Long Beach with a 26.20 lbs. halibut caught the same day! Martin Wall of Garden Grove followed up on Sunday with a 20.20 lbs. halibut. Kam Yu of LA is currently still the leader with a 38.35 lb. halibut holding that leading position would mean winning an annual free pass to Long Beach Sportfishing and securing a position to fish the fish off tournament for the pot of Gold Jackpot which is estimated around $2,500.
