THE CABO SAN LUCAS FFISH REPORT - THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND MORE

The fishing is picking up by the day and the billfish counts are on the upward movement, too. The Pacific side sea temps are cool all over, (67-68 degrees) and this has driven most of the billfish to round the corner and head toward the Sea of Cortez. Combined overall fish counts for the Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet and Fish Cabo boats, reporting in for a total of 38 fishing days, reflected 25 stripers, (16 releases) 14 dorado and 162 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo Climate: Another excellent week of nearly picture perfect weather with temps from 61 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Water temps on the Pacific side have fallen to 67-68 and the current break is right at Cabo Rocks, changing and moving upward to 70 and continuing rising to 74 into the Sea of Cortez.

Best Fishing Area: From southeast of Cabo, out to the 95 fathom spot and northeasterly, into the Sea of Cortez.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait working well on the stripers, albeit, they are not overly eager biters. A few being taken on the artificials but no dominant colors reported. Feathers & cedar plugs working well on the tuna with most colors doing well.

Live Bait Supply: Good supply of Caballitos & mackerel.

THE MAZATLAN FISH REPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET

Even with some improvement in the water temps and conditions, the offshore bite remains difficult for the anglers and crew. Overall fish counts for 28 offshore fishing days reflected 5 stripers, 1 sailfish, 3 hammerhead shark and 8 dorados. Ten inshore fishing days resulted in a variety catch that included 9 corvinas, 51 vaquetas, 25 cabrillas, 10 mojarras, 3 lenguas and 39 cochitos.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days, temps from 53 nights to 88 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Improved throughout the area with rising temps inshore to 72 and climbing to 74-75 offshore. Light tropical breezes, little swell and good color.

Best Fishing Area: The area still has not developed from the cooler water temps but if this trend of rises continues this week, then we should begin to see more fish filtering into the region.

Best Lure/Bait: All of the billfish were taken on rigged trolling baits.

THE IXTAPA-ZIHUATANEJO FISH REPORT - THE INDEPENDENT FLEET

Dramatically improved sea conditions along with a slight warming of the ocean temperatures brought in a more consistent offshore bite. Leading the way once again was captain Chiro on the Bloody Hook reporting a 300 Lb. Black Marlin along with 16 Sailfish and 1 monster Dorado for 5 days offshore. Captain Adolofo on the Dos Hermanos 1 reported 2 Sailfish , 8 big Spanish Mackerel and a handful of Bonitos in 2 days of fishing. Partner Captain Cheva on the Dos Hermanos 2 reported 2 Blue Marlin in the 150 - 160 Lb range along with 3 Sails. Captain Temo on the Secuestro reported 3 Sailfish and 1 Dorado in 3 offshore days. The blue water has moved to within the 5 mile mark and most of the better action is occurring just beyond that mark. Our captains are reporting that the fish are much more aggressive as the ocean temperatures become more favorable.

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo weather: Sunny Mild Temps, 72 nights to 87 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Calm, with much improved sea temps and clarity conditions throughout this area. Temps are stable at 83 degrees and ranging from inshore to offshore.
