GENERAL CONDITIONS

Trout fishing has been slowly picking up, fishing on the east shore trail has been fairly good with several limits getting pulled out in the last couple days. Trolling has been hit or miss, some anglers are pulling out trout using small Rapalas and Kastmaster fishing near Raccoon Point. Our latest trout plant was on December 21st, we planted 1,000 lbs. of trout near the marina. Video of the trout plant is available on Lake Chabot’s Facebook page. Water temperature has dropped down to the high 50’s and water clarity is about 2 feet visibility. We received a good amount of rain this past weekend and the visibility of the water should clear up in the next couple of days depending on the weather.

All of our boats are half off Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays, including Patio Boats!!

CATFISH

Catfishing slowed down quite a bit. No reports of catfish were reported getting caught this past week. When fishing for catfish, the best bait to use when fishing for catfish is either chicken liver, or mackerel. Make sure to cut 2” inch chunk of mackerel and putting it on a size 1 or 2 hook and half ounce weight works best. A simple trick to use when using this bait is wrapping magic thread around the bait to ensure that it doesn’t fly off when fishing.

TROUT

Trout fishing is starting to pick up again. A couple limits have been reported getting caught on the east shore trail from Indian Cove down to Raccoon Point. Successful anglers are using PowerBait and mice tails to lure them in. When setting up make sure to use a sliding sinker set up with a ½ oz weight and at least an 18” leader line. Trolling has also started to pick up too. Anglers are using gold Kastmasters and small Rapalas when trolling on a boat. Our last plant trout plant was on December 21st, of 1,000 pounds. Water temperature remains in the high 50’s and visibility is about 2 feet.

BASS

Bass fishing had a slow week. A couple reports of bass were caught but nothing big was reported. Please practice catch and release for bass, as they are not stocked into the lake and their population depends on you!
