Saturday is forecast to be a nice day in the Red Bluff area and what better way to spend that day with the family than to come out to the Bass Pond in the Bend/Paynes Creek BLM area for a day of free kids trout fishing. This is a great way to introduce youngsters to fishing.
The CDFW is stocking the Bass Pond located on Bend Ferry Road off Jelly's Ferry Road with trout for this fun event. For those who do not own fishing tackle, there will be rigged rod and reel outfits available to borrow on a first come, first served basis. Bait will also be provided so all that is needed is maybe a chair to sit on, some sun protection, a camera to capture the memories, and an ice chest to hopefully take home some trout for dinner.
Volunteers will be on hand to teach new anglers and assist in any way needed. It is a great event so if you are in the area please come by and say hi. Remember that from 9:00 am to 3 pm fishing is limited to youth under 16 who are at least able to hold and assist reeling in the rod. Adults are not allowed to fish for youngsters or themselves, and wardens have been known to attend these events and enforce the rules when needed.
There will also be another Free Kids fishing day on April 21 at the Anderson River Park in Anderson and on May 19 at Lassen Pines Camp in Viola off Highway 44 just east of Shingletown.
