http://www.royalpolaris.comWe had a very fun day of tuna fishing! Conditions vastly improved today with current, sea life and wind starting to work in our favor. Today was the first day we had a daytime bite with a steady pick at 100lbers. We made a slight adjustment in the late afternoon that was definitely the right call.
We had several vey nice tuna come aboard with Jon “Never give up” Pettey landing a 203lber.
Dr Gary “Vice grip” Edwards landed the days best at 217lbs with the longest sickles I’ve ever seen.
Rod “Check your line” McDowell got his first tuna and received a boot filling experience. The afternoon’s fishing is worth a little more detail.
We pulled up to our new spot and were greeted immediately by birds & dolphin. Large tuna started to crash around as Jon Pettey got the first bite. After a lengthy battle, the hook pulled and the large tuna won his freedom. On his very next bait, Jon hooked another one that took him for a ride. I lost count after the tuna took him around the boat for the 5th time. Over an hour later he had his prized 203lber. Congrats to Jon!
The other story that unfolded was our formerly unsure handed Dr Gary Edwards, after getting passed 3 times, he took his turn on the kite as it grew dark. He held on with a vice-like grip and brought around the beast. After 5 minutes, it did a weird flip turn that exposed sickles that touched it’s tail and found the gaff. Once it was brought on board, it took several of us to pry the rod out of the good doctor’s hands. He was once referred to as “Dr Butterfingers” has been fully redeemed to “Dr Vice grips”!
For his 2nd shout out, Dr Gary would like to say hello to Linda, Popi & Jason (he’d call, but we can’t get the rod out of his hands). Jon Pettey would like to say hi to Jenny, Marie & Kristen (Pretty much like father like daughter). Rod would like to say hello to Brandon who happens to be on the same trip (don’t ask).
