The Crooked has remained a good option for finding fish consistently on these hot summer days. Nymphing is the best way to get into fish throughout the day, but there has been sporadic opportunity to fish dries. Typically there will be a Caddis hatch in the late evenings, with some PMD activity throughout the day. Our guides have been seeing some success with attractor mayflies and PMD patterns, particularly early in the morning and in early afternoon. Be sure to use fluorocarbon when nymphing, as the fish have seen a lot of flies this summer and have grown wary. A two fly set-up with a Pheasant Tail, Hare’s Ear, or Scud pattern up front trailed by a small midge pattern in the 18-22 range will find fish.
