http://www.dfw.state.or.usThe Bureau of Reclamation announced that construction at the dam will stop for the winter, so anglers will be able to drive into the parking lot at the dam to fish. Anglers continue to catch trout at Howard despite declining water levels.
Boat access is now limited to the resort boat ramp. While the marina and restaurant are now closed for the season, the resort campround will remain open for the time being, so the boat ramp will remain accessible. Only small boats will be able to successfully launch.
Bank anglers can do well walking to the point near the dam to fish, or fishing the now narrow channel near Fawn Island. During the drought in 2013-2015, the color yellow was very productive for lures and bait in the area near Fawn Island.
Most of Howard Prairie is around 10-15 feet deep right now, with the deepest holes, up to about 30 feet, found from the northern edge of the dam up to Hoxie Cove. Water levels will continue to drop into the fall months.
