"What a great way to end our trip," wrote Intrepid skipper Kevin Osborne July 31. "The day started out with wide open Yellowtail until we had limits. The quality of fish is great. We then made a move that found us in a ripper Albacore bite to finish off the trip. The Intrepid team would like to thank Luc and Anglers Choice Tackle once again for such a great group of people to spend a week with out on the high seas. Wonderful trip. One other note; the weather just does not get any better."

There were 21 anglers on the boat for the five-day trip. The best fish Osborne weighed at the Pt. Loma Sportfishing scales was a 40.6-pound albacore caught by Richard Caliston of North Hills.

Caliston said he bagged that little tub on a sardine and a 3/0 Mustad 91450 hook tied to 30-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader and 30-pound XXX Izorline. He fished with a Saltiga 30 T reel and a Shikari 80-30 rod.

"It was hard," he said. "It was the first fish on the first day."

John Bakos of Phoenix, AZ won second place for a 39.8-pounder, and chartermaster Luc Offield won third place for a 39.4-pound albacore.

Regular long ranger Don "Big Daddy" Burnside told Bill Roecker he released four "quality albacore" on the last day of fishing.
