The water temperature out here at Lake Del Valle is still in the low to mid 60's for the whole day although, the trout have really started to come out in force with many getting caught in the shallow coves out in Swallow Bay or on the East Beach. Micetails seem to be their preferred bait although you can get them on a nightcrawler or Powerbait, lure fishing for trout is still spotty though. We have received one plant of Mt. Lassen trout of 1000 pounds and two plants of 750 pounds since our last report. The catfish bite has slowed down although, you can always target them with chicken liver, or anchovies. This time of year, they are found in the muddier water most of the structure is out of the water so try bait fishing the points of the coves out in Heron Bay and Swallow Bay as well. The stripers are getting more active with large nightcrawlers being the kind of bait they want. They can mostly be found running through the center channel of water, so you are going to want to get out to the deeper water to find them. They have also been seen hitting Kastmasters or small to medium sized swimbaits. The bass continue to gorge here on the earthworms and nightcrawlers the best place to fish for them are the rock points along the edges. Most are hitting the nightcrawler on the drop, you are going to want to be out casting, or flipping for them the less weight the better. You are going to want a slow drop, on your rubber worm imitations, rubber grubs can work as well, but you are going to want to go slow as possible to catch their attention. The large nightcrawlers may as well be the highlight of this report with almost all our fish getting caught on them.
