Striped bass continue to be the main target for anglers fishing the Delta waterways. Field scout report good numbers of fish in the 4 to 8 pound range coming out of Broad Slough, West Island and the flats in front of Eddo Harbor east of the Antioch Bridge by bait dunkers using primarily shad and mudsuckers. The bite has been so good that some have reported having a 40 fish day with a good majority of the fish in the 20 to 23 inch length. The south Delta over in Grant Line Canal near the Tracy Oasis reports of a striped bass being caught that measured 48 inches in length. That would put it in the 50 plus pound category. The fish are scattered throughout the Delta. The water clarity is much better on the San Joaquin River with surface water temperatures holding at 51 degrees. The colder water conditions are beginning to put the fish on a less aggressive bite mode, so paying attention to your rod tip is very important to having a successful day out on the Delta
The sturgeon fishing picked up last week over in Grizzly Bay where several anglers scored some heavy counts of hook ups. In water depths raging from 12 to 15 feet Jay Lopes of Right Hook Sportfishig had a banner day with 3 clients This is unbelievable, but they had 35 hook ups with sturgeon and most were in the slot limit size. The fish are there and again having some patience works in your favor. The best baits continues to be salmon roe, eel strips and ghost shrimp.
