http://www.fishingvideos.comA four-day Amero Investments charter with 18 anglers aboard Intrepid struck yellowtail gold at Guadalupe with skipper Rick Kelly. The yellows came in all sizes, but most were the quality fish expected from the big offshore island. Kelly docked at Pt. Loma Sportfishing with limits of ???tails, and a smattering of yellowfin tuna and other fish from paddies encountered on the way home.
"We fished two days at the island," said skipper Rick, "and had a very good, steady pick on yellowtail day and night. We anchored at the North End and fished all night with a couple going most of the time. It was a great night bite on straight slabs.
"At the island we released three big black sea bass. On the way home we picked up two or three dozen albacore, dorado and yellowfin fishing off Punta Banda, off Ensenada."
Michael Moll of Tustin won the jackpot for a 39.6-pound yellowtail that fought for 20 minutes. He said he bagged it with a sardine on a 3/0 Flyliner hook, 40-pound Big Game line, a Penn 4/0 reel and a Seeker Black Steel 6465 rod.
"He damn near tore my arms off," said Moll. "I also released a giant black sea bass that didn't pull quite as hard."
Alfred Rodriquez of Redlands was second for a 38.8-pounder, and Patrick Casas of Highland took third place with a 38.6-pound Guadalupe Island yellowtail.
