The lake temperature here at Del Valle has been in the upper 60’s to low 70’s making it perfect weather to come out here and bass fish! The striped bass are moving right now along the channels that move along the center of the lake. The striped bass are balling the bait up and pushing it on shore so you are going to want to use shad imitations to entice the stripers to attack you bait, flukes, or swimbaits are going to be your best options. You can use spoons or kastasters fishing the sharp points on shore is best area to target the stripers they love to push the bait they are chasing onto these points early morning is the best time to catch the stripers chasing the shad, alternatively you can use anchovies as bait to get the stripers in your are throwing these with a 1/4 weight usually a smaller weight will help the fish take the bait since they can fell less weight when they pick up your bait allowing them to run with it more.
The small and largemouth bite is also doing well nightcrawler or senkos are their favorite bait to chase out there you can usually find them hanging out in the cat tails that are spread out all across the lake you want to try and cast the worms as close to the weed mats as possible also try fishing the rock points that have a nice drop off to let you worm sink in. Alternatively, rattletraps and crank baits also get the small and largemouth interested they also like extra displacement and noise. Many bass are also moving in the south end of the lake if you are fishing from shore you are going to want to try either to the east or west beach swim area.
The catfish bite is also doing well out here their favorite baits are large nightcrawlers or anchovies. The catfish hand out around the fallen trees that are all around the lake this is where they prefer to make their nests. Many of the catfish take some time to get moving so you want to get your bait close to structure in the water and give them a decent amount of time.
The trout fishing out here is almost done because of the lake temperature is reaching 71-72 degrees mid day making the trout move into the deep water if you want to target them you will want to do deep.
The perch fishing out here is on fire as well the redworms or mini crawlers are their favored bait you can find the bluegill or crappie around the wed mats near shore or the cattails they love any sort of structure to hang around in.
The bass bite out here is going strong!
