Clackamas Fishing Report

OR Department of Fish & Wildlife Staff

Report Date:

http://www.dfw.state.or.us

Fishing remains very slow on the Clackamas River due to a combination of poor returns, low flows and high water temperatures. The last several days of rain and cooler weather may improve prospects on the Clack, however.

ODFW has received a few unconfirmed reports of coho showing up in the lower river so it’s not too early to target these fish with spinners, bait, beads and colored yarn. While it’s still early, try fishing for coho between Riverside and Barton and at the mouth of Eagle Creek. Additional rain and cooler temperatures would bode well for Clackamas River fishing, which should include some summer steelhead by now.

USGS hydrological data for Sept. 11 shows river flows improving slightly to 916 cfs water temperature declining a couple of degrees to 61° F, and the gauge height rising slightly to 10.83 ft. All of the readings come from the Estacada gauge near Milo McIver State Park. Hydrologic data and river forecasts can also be accessed on the NOAA/National Weather Service NW River Forecast Center -- NW River Forecast Center
