Truckee River

The river is fishing really well in both Nevada and California. On the Nevada side the river is in great shape from the stateline to Derby Dam. There have been some really nice fish taken on nymphs and streamers in the past two months. The fish are holding in deeper slower pools as they do for most of the winter months. Dead drifting small nymphs such as Bottom Rollers and Pheasant Tails in size 14 to 18. It is very important to get your flies near the bottom with no drag. The California side is really low from Lake Tahoe to Boca Bridge. The best fishing is below that point. The same techniques can be used as on the Nevada side. The best fishing times are between 10:00am 3:00pm when the water is the warmest. Flows are: Town of Truckee 20 CFS, Boca Bridge 238 CFS, Reno 239 CFS.
