Good numbers of striped bass showing throughout the Delta Region. Current surface water temperatures are now holding at 61 degrees. Trolling at anchor tossing your favorite bait has been very productive for the average striper weighing between 5 and 8 pounds up to an occasional larger fish in the teens and twenties. As a bonus, anglers trolling for striped bass are picking a few bright chinook salmon with most weighing in the high teens and lower twenty pound bracket. Note: Salomon fishing on the San Joaquin River is off limits. Salmon are still moving through the system up the Sacramento River, South Fork of the Mokelumne River and upstream into the American and Feather Rivers. This is the prime troll season for salmon. The hot lure is the double-bladed spinner in the chartreuse and silver color pattern about 100 feet behind the boat at a speed of 1.5 knots for best results.
Suisun Bay
The sturgeon fishing has been off the charts with a number of diamondbacks measuring from 52 to 59 inches hitting the decks. In a days catch a number of undersized and oversized fish making an appearance. A legal sturgeon must measure 40 inches in length from the V of the tail to the tip of its snout.
San Francisco Bay
The beat goes on with continued excellent halibut fishing along with some quality striped bass in the mix. This year has been the best year for halibut that most can remember. The rock piles and flats have been productive.
Outside The Gate
The rock and ling cod fishing has been excellent off the Marin coastline and off the Farallon Islands. Party boats are returning with full ten fish limits of quality rockfish and some ling cod up to 20 pounds for their clients.
Pardee Lake
Pardee Lake is closed for the season and will reopen February 13, 2020.
Trout Plants
Trophy sized trout from the Mt. Lassen Fish Hatchery have been planted in Lake Camanche and Lake Amador.
