Wet and soggy.
Better than cold and dry though. If you came up last week, way too cold to fish. I didn’t bother going out, or take on any guide trips. We had cold and snow. This week is different. Warmer and wet. Some snow and mostly rain here in the Hirsch. Much warmer air temps this week and a little boost in the flows.
Fishing is always good on the backs of these warm storms on the Truckee River in Winter. When we get snow levels down around 2000 feet, probably not the best for fishing. When we get the warmer storms, or AR’s, that’s when you will get some good fishing. Warmer at night, warmer during the day. Obviously, it’s even warmer down in Reno, and out East on the lower river. You don’t want stagnant, clear, cold, low water conditions.
So, this will be a much better fishing week on the river. Gonna snow this weekend, but looks like not as cold as last weekend. I went out back and did well this morning. Haven’t touched the river here in a few months. Been down in Nevada, and stillwater fishing on my free time. Remember, fish water moving at a slow walking pace anywhere along the river. Runs, pools, etc. Do not fish the pocket water as trouts are not there. We get our biggest fish usually in winter and spring. Just how it is.
