Good Morning Yellowfin Tuna

Hello everyone;

Let’s start like this, it 03:30, your sleeping good, and you here, wake up time to make bait.  Your arms are scorer, your back hurts, and you legs are saying stay in bed.  But there’s no substitute  for live bait and lots of it.  Then you realize it’s not a dream, it’s Roy waking you up to make bait.

As soon as bait making is over, you move to the spot, and it didn’t take long for the Yellowfin to start biting.  It was about 60/40, fly-line sardine to the kite, but the larger fish were coming in on the kite, and then is was almost 50/50 kite to fly-line sardine, it was fast action on the kite, as we went through the rotation twice before lunch again.

We caught a few 50 to 70 pound fish (and I do mean a few), but the majority of the fish were in the 110 to 130 range, with a few standouts on the kite.  Largest fish today was caught by Steve Oba, it weighed out at 168 pounds.  Steve is on this trip every year, and to my surprise, I don’t forget it’s his wife’s birthday come up soon.

Tomorrow will be our half way point of fishing through the trip, and I’m wondering if most of these guy’s are going to making it another 5 days of fishing, that is if is stays like this.  The key ticket to getting bit is, you have to be here to see it.

I will let out a few secrets of the trip on our way home.  Wahoo fishing is been, well we haven’t fished them since the Yellowfin fishing has been excellent.  May be later on the trip.

Weather continues to be good, with sunny skies, 10 to 12 knots of breeze, and calm seas.  Photos of the trip will be coming soon.

Will end by saying, wish us luck and good fishing.  Team R/p
